Cardinals Sweep Battle of the Birds to Highlight Busy Monday Southport volleyball earned bragging rights Monday night, sweeping Perry Meridian 3-0 in the varsity edition of the Battle of the Birds. The rivalry victory highlighted a busy September 14 across Southport Athletics. Football Takes Down THN

Southport used explosive plays and timely defense to earn a 28-14 road victory over Terre Haute North. The Cardinals struck immediately after an interception on Terre Haute North’s opening possession, with Mason Owens connecting with Liam Wilson for a 50-yard touchdown on Southport’s first offensive play. Owens later found Johnson for another score, giving the Cardinals a 14-6 lead. Southport’s defense came up big throughout the night, including an interception in the end zone on fourth-and-goal and multiple fourth-down stops. Pennington broke free for a long touchdown run late in the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-6, and Brummett added a rushing touchdown with 1:47 remaining to put the game away. Terre Haute North scored late, but Southport closed out the 28-14 victory for its second consecutive win.

Week 3: Homecoming Night was a HUGE success for the Cardinal Sports Network! We are now up to THREE student workers. Max (one of my 4th grade students from my time at Mary Bryan) and I re-united, and I invited him to be our camera operator. He KILLED it in his debut! Charles continues to develop his skills as our color commentator, and he and Clarke have built a ton of chemistry. Together, they make the broadcast so fun to listen to! (Seriously, you can usually find me dying laughing while producing this thing!) Jeyson (instagram profile pictured) has joined our staff as a sideline photographer and videographer. We're using his content to create our graphics and website. He is SO talented! Clarke and I continue to have a blast with this project, and it's so fulfilling to pour energy and effort into a community we care deeply about. Waking up the next morning to see over a thousand views on our streams is incredibly rewarding.
