Southport High School Athletics and Perry Township Schools have enjoyed a longstanding and valued partnership with the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA).
For many years, we have taken great pride in serving as a host site for IHSAA postseason tournaments in boys and girls basketball and wrestling, as well as numerous Marion County tournaments. It has always been an honor to welcome student-athletes, coaches, officials, and fans to our campus, and we are grateful for the confidence the IHSAA and our fellow Marion County schools have placed in us.
As Southport High School embarks on an exciting new chapter, we recently broke ground on a series of transformational facility improvements that will significantly enhance opportunities for our students and our community for generations to come. These projects include the construction of a new indoor activity center featuring four basketball courts, a state-of-the-art wrestling room, and a brand-new weight room. In addition, the project includes new classrooms, office space, renovated locker rooms, and significant upgrades to our auditorium and performing arts facilities, creating a modern learning environment that supports excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts.
While we are incredibly excited about these investments, the construction process will temporarily impact the functionality of our campus. Specifically, the Southport Fieldhouse will experience limited parking availability and restricted access and exit points throughout construction.
After careful consideration and in the interest of providing the safest and highest-quality experience for student-athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators, Southport High School Athletics and Perry Township Schools have made the difficult decision to temporarily pause our role as a host site for IHSAA postseason tournaments and Marion County tournaments during the construction period.
While this was not an easy decision, we believe it is the most responsible course of action given the temporary challenges our campus will face.
This decision in no way reflects a change in our commitment to the IHSAA or our relationships with neighboring Marion County schools. Those partnerships remain among our highest priorities, and we deeply appreciate the trust that has been placed in Southport High School over the years. We are proud of our tradition of hosting championship events and look forward to welcoming teams, schools, and communities back to Southport once construction is complete.
These investments represent Perry Township Schools' commitment to providing first-class opportunities for our students in every area of school life. We are confident that these facility enhancements will position Southport High School as an even stronger venue for future athletic competitions, performing arts events, and community gatherings. The improvements will not only benefit our students and staff but will also enhance the experience for every visiting school and community member who walks through our doors.
We sincerely appreciate the continued partnership, understanding, and support of the IHSAA and our Marion County colleagues throughout this exciting period of growth. We look forward to the completion of these projects and to renewing our role as a premier host site for postseason tournaments and county events.
We are excited about the future of Southport High School, Southport High School Athletics, Perry Township Schools, and our continued relationships with the IHSAA, our neighboring Marion County school districts, and the Southport community for many years to come.
