The Southport Youth Basketball League (SYBL) is open to players of all ability levels in grades 1-6. The recreational league focuses on skill development, sportsmanship and competition while giving young players an opportunity to become part of the Southport Basketball community.
Registration is $100 per player through Sunday, September 20, with a sibling discount available. Evaluations will be held Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20. Late registration will remain available from September 21 through October 5 for $120.
The SYBL season begins in late October and runs through mid-January. Players will participate in weekly practices, eight Saturday regular-season games and a tournament. Saturday divisions will be organized into grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6.
Southport will also offer its Southport Future Cards Team (SFCT) for boys in grades 3-6 seeking additional competition. Teams of 8-10 players will be selected following tryout evaluations based on fundamentals, attitude, effort, experience and ability to compete.
Future Cards players will participate in the SYBL while also practicing and competing in additional travel games and tournaments on Saturdays and Sundays. The SFCT season runs from October through March, with tryouts scheduled for late September and early October.
All SYBL players will receive a reversible jersey and free admission to Southport High School boys basketball games with a paid adult, providing another opportunity for future Cardinals to connect with the high school program.
