Coach Jones will also join Southport’s Physical Education Department, bringing a strong background in athletic performance, education, and student development to the school.

Jones comes to Southport after most recently working with Parkview Sports Medicine as a Human Performance Specialist. In that role, he served as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Fort Wayne South Side High School, working directly with student-athletes to develop strength, speed, power, movement, and overall athletic performance.

Before his time in Fort Wayne, Jones served as a Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Marian University. There, he helped design and implement training programs for collegiate football athletes while continuing to develop his experience in athletic performance. Throughout his career, Jones has worked with athletes from a variety of sports, ages, and training levels.

Jones brings an extensive educational and professional background to Southport. He earned a Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning from Logan University and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach, and a licensed Indiana Physical Education teacher.

He also has experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, adding another layer to his background in health, wellness, and working directly with individuals.

While Jones brings considerable knowledge of athletic performance to Southport, his approach extends beyond simply getting athletes bigger, faster, or stronger.

His coaching philosophy centers on using movement and athletics as tools to develop better people. Jones aims to create an energetic and challenging environment where students learn to embrace difficult situations, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and establish habits that can benefit them well beyond their time in the weight room.

“We are excited to welcome Rylane to Southport,” said the Southport Athletic Department. “His knowledge, experience, energy, and passion for developing students and student-athletes make him a great addition to our school community. We look forward to the impact he will have on our students, coaches, Physical Education Department, and athletic programs.”

Jones’ arrival represents an exciting addition for Cardinal Athletics as Southport continues working to provide its student-athletes with the resources and support necessary to develop both on and off the field.

Welcome to Southport, Coach Jones!
